We will have two masses to celebrate the Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary on August 15th: 8:00am and 7:00pm. Mary is the first human being to experience the fullness of the Resurrection of Christ: the soul and body remain integrated and whole. Each human being is body and soul, not just the soul with the body “shed” at the time of death. Our identity is truly complete when our bodies are transformed through the power of the Resurrection and united with the soul.
The Assumption is a harvest festival since it occurs at the time of the harvesting of ripening fruit and vegetables that we relish at our meals. This feast also celebrates the fullness of the fruits of the harvest of humanity and the coming of the Resurrection of the dead. Mary is the “first fruit” of this beautiful harvest that will gather us together around the table of the Feast in heaven that never ends.
